Warm Fuzzies

As you may (or my not) have noticed, I haven’t really been blogging or tweeting much lately. I decided to stay with my parents for the entirety of my winter break since it’s going to be the last one I’ll have and I wanted to spend the time with them.  My semester officially started on the 10th, but since that was my best friend’s birthday I planned to come back to school on the 11th.

On the 5th, my dad had surgery on a torn meniscus in his knee. It went well and mom and dad got home around noon. About an hour later, we got a call from the Alzheimer’s center that my grandmother goes to saying she was sick and was going to be sent home. Long story short, she ended up in the hospital. So mom and I were then trying to juggle things with dad and figure out what was going on with grandma. She was in the hospital with Strep Pneumonia until last week and has been transferred to a rehabilitation center to get her strength back and go home.  Dad is recovering well but I stayed with my parents an extra week so I’d be there to help a little longer.

That’s not why I’m writing this, though. I’m writing to once again point out one of the great things about this community. I didn’t say too much about these events but from what I did say, I’ve had people checking in on us every day. I’ve had text messages and phone calls of support. I’ve had people offering to (no joke) have food sent over to my parents’ house. I’ve had people checking in just to make sure that I’d eaten and was staying as on top of my d-life as much as I could given the circumstances. And I appreciate it. I appreciate every text, tweet, email, and smoke signal.

Love you muchly, D-OC!

My Best Friend's Birthday

Today is my best friend’s birthday!!

She’s a beautiful, kind, generous, selfless, strong, smart, funny and classy woman. As long as I’ve known her, I’ve aspired to be like her.

It’s very rare in life to say you have someone who has absolutely always been there for you and who’s never let you down. She’s that person for me. She’s someone who’s always supported me even when she hasn’t agreed with my decisions. No matter what I know she’s always in my corner.

She’s someone I can cry with just as easily as I can laugh. She’s someone who I can trust with all of my secrets. She’s someone who knows me better than I know myself which can honestly be annoying at times when she just gives me “the look” until I decide to spill my guts to her.

She’s someone I always have fun with no matter what we’re doing. Even mundane errands turn into adventurous giggle-fests when we do them together.  I often tell her she’s never matured past age 12 since she’s never lost the big hearted innocence that adulthood so often rips away from us. She laughs easily and often. One of my favorite things is when I know what I’m saying is going to make her laugh that full bellied laugh that brings tears to her eyes. I love knowing that with all the ways I can count on her, she can always count on me to make her laugh.

She’s someone who always has a smile on her face and even on her toughest days, she’ll give anyone a shoulder to cry on and an understanding and compassionate ear to talk to.

If you asked her other friends about her they’d call her strong… kind… classy… funny… selfless… smart…   generous…  the list goes on and on...

But I just call her Momma.

Happy Birthday Momma. I love you the mostest!

xoxo

Top 9

Ta-Daaa! It's looking pretty spiffy around here, huh? A HUGE thanks to Bird Man for hunting down an AWEsome design that he knew I could actually work with!  Thanks buddy!!

Now for the business at hand. I know that it probably would have made more sense to post this yesterday but what can I say? I'm a rebel. Taking a cue from Rachel, here are the posts that received the most traffic this year. I know 9 is a random number but it's the number blogger picked so here they are:

The Not So Civil War - The post I never wanted to have to write

Diabetes Art Day!!! - My creation for LeAnn's amazing day and one of my favorite days of blog reading (looking? observing?).

D-Feast Friday: Hellllllooooo, Cupcake! - My post for the inaugural D-Feast Friday. Can't go wrong with cupcakes. Ever.

"The Bad Kind" - Inspired by a DSMA conversation, and expanding on the theory that there's a "bad kind" of diabetes. Hate to spoil the ending of the story but no matter the type, diabetes = suckage.

First Post! - From February 15, my very first post from when this blog was a class project.

A Post With No Name - Wherein I explain my Grad School decisions and why I hadn't written anything of substance in a while.

Wesley Crusher, Will Schuester, and a Moose Broke Into My House... - About the most wonkified low-bg induced dream I've had to date.

Facing Down the Demons - My first explicit mention of The Monkey on My Back.

NoDDay - Yummy!!! My very first NoDDay. A great day of blog reading in which I learned so much about my fellow D-OCers.

And a couple of my personal favorites:

Life Support - My Word Diabetes Day Post

Diabetes Blog Day - Another great, and usually pretty funny, day of reading.
